Priorities

Isle of Palms is special!! Many of us moved here to enjoy the small-town feel, natural beauty, and coastal lifestyle.  Let’s improve where and when needed—but let’s also protect & appreciate what makes IOP home! Government involvement and change isn’t always necessary!

Safety

Always First and Foremost we must ensure the safety of both residents and visitors—especially during peak tourism when we see up to 20,000 cars on the island in a single day.

  • Adequate staffing and resources for emergency response
  • Retaining experienced first responders
  • Ensuring first responders have clear pathways to reach residents during congestion
  • Maintaining 2015 parking plan

Beach Preservation

Our beach is not only why so many of us moved here but a key part of our local economy. Sea levels rise and currently at high tide there is limited beach access—especially for families and individuals with mobility concerns.

  • Continued and proactive beach renourishment
  • Collaboration with coastal engineers to explore sustainable solutions
  • IOP contributes significant tax revenue to the state—we need the support returned
  • Strong lobbying efforts and local leadership to secure funding for beach preservation and infrastructure

Infrastructure Improvements

As a barrier island, we face unique infrastructure challenges and to continue drainage improvements to protect our homes and ensure reliable access for first responders.

  • Improved drainage systems
  • Safe, accessible sidewalks and streets
  • Undergrounding power lines

Property Rights

  • I support the voice of the residents from the referendum
  • I support options so we can rent our homes both short term and long term
  • I appreciate the funds that short term rentals provide to the city to maintain our quality of life, that helps with beach renourishment and keeps our taxes the lowest in the Charleston area
  • I do not support a cap
  • I support the ongoing monthly monitoring of active rental licenses and reports to ensure our community stays family friendly
  • I support strict enforcement of rental properties
